Setting up Mollie

Besides Stripe, you can use Mollie to receive online payments. Mollie is particularly attractive if you host many Dutch guests, because iDEAL comes built in. For other local European payment methods, too, Mollie's rates are often favourable for an average B&B booking.
One card provider at a time. Per property you choose either Stripe or Mollie, not both. Bancontact / WERO can stay active alongside either one. BedFlow does not allow Stripe and Mollie to be switched on together: turn one off before you turn the other on.
When to choose Mollie instead of Stripe?
| Situation | Better | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Mostly Dutch guests | Mollie | iDEAL is included, at a fixed price per payment |
| Mostly Belgian guests | No big difference | You set up Bancontact separately anyway; card fees are close to each other |
| International guests with Amex / Apple Pay | Stripe | Mollie supports Apple Pay too, but Amex and Apple Pay run a little more smoothly with Stripe |
| You already have a Mollie account for your webshop | Mollie | One dashboard and one payout for everything |
Your choice is never final: you can always switch later (see below).
Creating a Mollie account
- Create an account at mollie.com.
- Enter your company or VAT number. Mollie checks your details; this usually takes one business day.
- In the Mollie dashboard, activate the payment methods you want to offer, at least credit card and iDEAL.
- Open Developers → API keys and copy the Live API key (it starts with
live_). If you want to test first, use the Test API key (test_).
Setting it up in BedFlow
- Go to Settings → Integrations, category Payments, and click Configure on the Mollie tile.
- Switch on Enable Mollie.
- Paste your key into API key (
live_…ortest_…). - Leave Profile ID empty. That field is only needed if you work with an organization access token (
access_…); in that case you will find the Profile ID (pfl_…) in your Mollie dashboard. With a regular API key it stays empty. - Click Save.
The tile shows Setup incomplete as long as the API key is missing, and Connected as soon as everything is in order.
If you enter a test key, the payment page uses Mollie's test environment: no real payments take place. Don't forget to enter your live key when you go live.
Do I need to set anything up in the Mollie dashboard?
No. Unlike Stripe, Mollie does not require you to register a webhook. With every payment, BedFlow itself tells Mollie where to report the result. As soon as the guest has paid:
- BedFlow is notified automatically and checks the payment using your own Mollie key;
- the invoice is marked as (partially) paid;
- the payment confirmation goes out to the guest and you receive a notification. See Automatic payment confirmation.
What does the guest see?
On the payment page, possibly next to Bancontact, the guest sees the button Pay with credit card or iDEAL via Mollie. It takes the guest to Mollie's payment page, where they can choose iDEAL, Bancontact, credit card, Apple Pay or SEPA. After paying, they are automatically brought back to you.
Reconciling in your accounts
Every successful Mollie payment gets the reference mollie:tr_… on the invoice. Mollie pays out your money in one go once a day or once a week (depending on your Mollie setting), with the payment IDs of that batch in the description. That way you or your accountant can match every payment to the right invoice.
Switching from Stripe to Mollie (or the other way round)
- Under Settings → Integrations → Payments, open the tile of your current provider with Configure, switch the toggle off and click Save.
- Open the tile of the other provider, switch the toggle on, enter the keys and click Save.
- From now on, new payment links use the new provider.
Tip: switch at a quiet moment. A guest who has just opened a payment link should preferably finish paying before you switch.
